Asst. Principal - Mr. Ken Hopkins


After serving as a teacher for nine years at Mount Saint Charles Academy, Ken began his administrative career as an assistant principal at Vincent J. Gallagher Middle School in Smithfield.  In 2015, Ken was named the RI Assistant Principal of the Year. In 2016, Ken joined the Smithfield High School administrative team as an assistant principal, and served as acting principal during the ‘17-’18 school year.  Currently, Ken is an assistant principal at Smithfield High School in his eighth year as a school administrator, and recently presented a session at the 2018 National Principals Conference. Ken has coached a variety of sports at multiple levels, including high school basketball at Cranston West, and has served previously as the RI Middle Level Director of Baseball and Associate Director of Basketball (RIPCOA).

A native of Cranston, Ken has spent his life and career devoted to education and athletics.  A two-time graduate of Providence College, for both undergraduate and Master’s degrees, Ken has been a lifelong Rhode Island resident.  Ken has been a perennial volunteer with Rhode Island Special Olympics, serving as a Unified golf partner, and coaching various school-based Unified athletics.  As a Unified Basketball coach, Ken led Gallagher Middle School in the country’s first ever middle school Unified Basketball game.
