To Parents/ Guardians of Smithfield Students:

Cold and Flu season is upon us. All illnesses need to be monitored and reported to the school nurse teacher and, if necessary, to the Rhode Island Department of Health.  In order to be proactive in reducing the number of students missing school time, if your child is feeling ill, please have your student check in at the health office.  This allows the school nurse teacher to keep track of health trends in the general school population.

Our Smithfield district protocol is that:  Students are NOT to use their cell phone to call/text a parent to go home ill unless they are in the Health Office and have checked in with the nurse.  Any student feeling ill or uncomfortable (needing early dismissal), should be seen by the School Nurse Teacher to be evaluated and treated according to the School Health Standing Orders. The School Nurse Teacher will then call a parent, if necessary, to send the student home or make a referral to the appropriate Health Care Provider. If your child does text or call you, please have them go to the school nurse teacher for evaluation and/ or dismissal.

We appreciate you working together with us to keep our schools a healthy environment for all of our children.
