A message from the Parent Council... Senior parents - don’t miss out on our trivia night & raffle being held Saturday, May 11th at the Portuguese American Club. Some of our great raffle items include gift certificates to many local eateries, overnight stays in Boston and the Cape, fun activities such as golf, museums, walking tours, tickets for sporting events and so much more!!! This event is our biggest fundraiser for Parent Council and for Post Grad (50% of profits go towards paying for this years post grad celebration). Get a team together and reserve a table (8 people) or come on your own and help us raise money while having a fun night!! Bring your own food/snacks too!! Tickets are $20 if you purchase now or $25 at the door. Checks should be made out to SHS Parent Council and can be sent into the high school with the enclosed flyer. Congratulations to Baseball player Zach Collins for being named the Smithfield High School Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill Athlete of the Week for the week ended April 14th. Zach, a junior, picked up a win on the mound, recording seven strikeouts, against Chariho in a 6-2 victory to give the Sentinels a two game sweep of the Chargers. At the plate Zach went 3-6 with two doubles in the two game series.

Congratulations to Boys Track member Michael Herchen for being named the Smithfield High School Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill Athlete of the Week for the week ended April 7th. Michael, a junior, scored in all four events he he competed in to help lead the Sentinels to a historic win over Cumberland, which was the first victory over the Clippers in 30 years. In just his first full season on the track team, Michael finished 2nd in the 300 Hurdles, 2nd in the 110 Hurdles, 2nd in the Triple Jump and 3rd in the High Jump.

SHS Science Olympiad Team Finishes 2nd! The team took 2nd place out of 25 teams at the state level competition at RI College. Team members won 5 bronze, 4 silver, and 4 gold medals for a total of 13 medals overall out of 24 events, our highest number yet. The students also placed 4th or 5th in 5 events, giving them a 5th or better placement in 18 of 24 events. Every member of the team contributed to this wonderful achievement. We are very proud of them.

Scituate High School in conjunction with Smithfield High School, are hosting a unified basketball game between the two schools on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 6:00 PM Scituate HS. Jolene, myself and Tim Brown (Scituate unified coach) are working hard to make this is fun community event for both towns. We really want to pack the stands for our unified players. We want to encourage unity not only among people within the town, but also between both towns. Attached is the flyer advertising the town unified basketball game. Smithfield High School Music Department proudly presents “The Little Mermaid” this weekend - a beloved musical about a young mermaid longing for love & life above the sea. Friday, March 8th at 7 PM Saturday, March 9th at 7 PM & Sunday, March 10th at 2 PM Tickets are just $10 per person and are available at the door. The SHS boys hockey team will take on Bishop Hendricken in the RIIL Division I Semifinals in a best 2 out of 3 series. Game 1 - Friday, 3/8 @ Hendricken Thayer Arena at 7:00 pm. Team Bus departure at 5:15 pm. Game 2 - Saturday, 3/9 @ Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink at 8:00 pm.

Congratulations to boys hockey player Hogan Nelson for being named the Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill SHS Athlete of the Week for the week ended March 3rd! Hogan, a senior goalkeeper, helped lead the Sentinels to a series sweep of Burrillville in the Division I Quarterfinals with his stellar net minding. In game one Hogan recorded a shutout with 39 saves in the team’s 1-0 victory. In game two he came up with 30 saves as the Sentinels finished off the Broncos with a 2-1 series clinching victory.
