Mandatory freshmen orientation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, from 5:00-7:30 pm. All freshmen and their parents or guardians are to arrive at the cafeteria at the high school at 5:00 pm. At least one parent or guardian must attend with their child. This event is meant to help students transition to high school, to socialize with other ninth graders, and to become acclimated with the facilities. Students will receive their schedule, have a tour of the building, receive their Chromebook, and enjoy a cookout with the Class of 2023 advisors. Parents will have an opportunity to choose from a variety of speakers. The full schedule may be found here.
New students enrolling at SHS are welcome to attend this event with a parent or guardian.

Fall sports begin next week!!!!
Fall practice begins August 19, 2019.
All student-athletes must register online.

Important Message to Parents with Students Entering Grade 12
Immunization Requirements:
In accordance with RI Department of Health Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Immunization and Testing for Communicable Diseases (R23-IMM), all adolescents entering grade 12 are required to have the following immunizations:
One (1) dose of Meningococcal Conjugate (Meningitis) Vaccine
Be up-to-date on their immunizations as well as have a physical exam
An annual Influenza (flu) vaccination is now RECOMMENDED for all students. A flu clinics will be held at SHS on October 3rd.
Please forward this to Mrs. Riley RN, School Nurse Teacher, before the 2019-2020 school year.

Please join us for a community forum on the Academic Honors Proposal on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 6:30 -8:00 pm at the high school.

Congratulations to girls track & field member Kendra Ezeama for being named the Smithfield High School Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill Athlete of the Week for the week ended June 2nd.
Kendra became State Champion in the Shot Put with a throw of 39’ 5” She also placed third in the Discus with a throw of 116’ 8”.

Congratulations to baseball player Casey Berwick for being named the Smithfield High School Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill Athlete of the Week for the week ended May 26th.
In a week that saw the baseball team sweep Johnston to catapult them into the Division I playoffs, senior Casey Berwick saved his best for last. In a must win final game of the season, Casey celebrated Senior Day by going 2-2 with a double, single, RBI and run scored to lead the Sentinels to the 15-0 victory over the Panthers.

SHS has been cleared. All students and staff have returned to building.

Out of abundance of caution SHS has evacuated building due to strong odor in the hallway. Fire dept is investigating. Students and staff are safe.

Congratulations to golfer Devin O’Brien for being named the Smithfield High School Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill Athletes of the Week for the week ended May 12th.
Devin, a junior, carded a five over par 40 in a match versus Ponaganset, which they won, and Mt. Saint Charles, which they lost. He followed that up with a 43 to help lead the Sentinels to a victory over Woonsocket, evening up the Sentinels record to 5-5 on the year.
